This division’s objective covers forest soil classification, soil analysis and amelioration, phytochemical screening of forest plants etc. The achievements so far by the Soil Science division are:
During the year 2003 –2004 the Soil Science division has taken up different projects as approved under the Annual operation Plan for 2003 –2004. These projects have been funded by the state government.
The Soil scientist was a part of the team for conducting and report writing of the State Biodiversity Strategy Action plan for Papum Pare, Lower Subansiri and Upper Subansiri districts of Arunachal Pradesh. The SBSAP report of these districts has been compiled and submitted to the State Nodal Officer of National Biodiversity Strategy Action Plan
Beside the projects funded by the state plan a research work without involvement of any fund a research work about the Indigenous Knowledge System in soil among the tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. The tribes which have been taken are Adi Minyong, Padam, Galo, Nyishi ( Bagni, Nishi and HillMiri), Tagin and Apatani. Collection of information and field works using People Participatory methods have been started. The progress / out come of this project will result into documentation of rich and indigenous knowledge of tribesmen.
